Restore a single file from your backup to confirm it is working correctly. Many people discover their backup has been failing silently only when they need it most.

Step-by-step guide

Open your backup service: iCloud, Google One, OneDrive, or your external backup software.
Navigate to a specific file, a recent document or photo you would notice was missing.
Restore that single file to a different folder on your device.
Open the restored file and confirm it is intact and up to date.
If the backup cannot be accessed or the file is missing, troubleshoot the backup service immediately. Do not wait until you need it in a crisis.
