Claude is safe to use for most everyday tasks, and unlike Meta AI, it has a clear setting to stop your conversations being used to train future models. Free, Pro and Max accounts need this switched off manually; Claude for Work and API accounts do not train on your data by default.

Why this setting matters

Claude, made by Anthropic, is another major AI chatbot alongside ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot. Its privacy settings work similarly to the others in this hub, but the exact defaults and retention periods are worth knowing. People sometimes assume all AI chatbots default to not training on your data unless you opt in. For Claude’s consumer plans, it is the other way around: training is on by default, and you need to actively turn it off.

Check this setting

Go to Privacy Settings and turn "Help improve Claude" off
With it on, new conversations are eligible for training and kept for up to 5 years; turning it off returns you to the standard 30-day retention
Turning it off only affects future conversations. It does not retroactively remove data already used for training
