How to set up a password manager on your Android phone

Before you start
This guide uses Bitwarden, a free and open-source password manager. You will need to create a free Bitwarden account at bitwarden.com before starting.
Steps
Install Bitwarden from the Google Play Store.
Open Bitwarden and sign in with your Bitwarden account.
Open your phone's Settings app.
Tap Passwords and accounts (or search "autofill" in the Settings search bar).
Tap Autofill service.
Select Bitwarden from the list.
Tap OK on the accessibility confirmation if prompted.
Return to Bitwarden and tap the + button to add your first password, or use it next time you log in to any app.
When you next log in to an app or website, Bitwarden will offer to fill in or save your credentials automatically.
How to confirm it worked
- When you tap a username or password field in any app, Bitwarden appears as an autofill option above the keyboard.
- Bitwarden shows as your active Autofill service in Settings > Passwords and accounts.
Troubleshooting
- Bitwarden does not appear when I tap a password field.
- Go back to Settings > Passwords and accounts > Autofill service and confirm Bitwarden is selected. On some phones this setting is labelled "Autofill with" or "AutoFill service".
