Turn on Find My iPhone

If your iPhone goes missing, Find My lets you see where it is, lock it, or erase it from another device or from iCloud.com. It's one of the most useful protections on the phone, and it's quick to switch on.

Turn it on

Open Settings, tap your name, then Find My, and turn on Find My iPhone. Also switch on Find My network and Send Last Location, so the phone can still be located when it's offline or the battery is about to die.

If it's lost or stolen

From another Apple device or iCloud.com, put the phone into Lost Mode. That locks it, shows a contact message, and keeps your data sealed behind your passcode. If you don't expect to get it back, you can erase it remotely. Because the phone is encrypted, a locked or erased iPhone gives a thief nothing.

Don't turn it off to save battery

Find My uses almost no power, and switching it off removes your safety net exactly when you might need it. Leave it on.
