Enable your router's built-in firewall

Most routers include a built-in firewall that filters incoming traffic. Check that it is switched on.

Why this matters

A router firewall is your first line of defence. It blocks unsolicited connection attempts from reaching your devices.

How to do it

  1. Log in to your router admin panel
  2. Look for a 'Firewall', 'Security', or 'Advanced' section
  3. Confirm the firewall is enabled — it usually is by default
  4. Save settings if you made a change
