Enable your router's built-in firewall
Most routers include a built-in firewall that filters incoming traffic. Check that it is switched on.
Why this matters
A router firewall is your first line of defence. It blocks unsolicited connection attempts from reaching your devices.
How to do it
- Log in to your router admin panel
- Look for a 'Firewall', 'Security', or 'Advanced' section
- Confirm the firewall is enabled — it usually is by default
- Save settings if you made a change
