How to back up your Android phone to Google Drive
A backup means you can restore your phone to its previous state if it is lost, stolen, or damaged. Without one, you lose your photos, contacts, and app data permanently.

Steps
Open the Settings app.
Tap System, then tap Backup.
Make sure Back up to Google Drive is turned on.
If it is off, tap the toggle to enable it.
Tap Back up now to run an immediate backup.
Tap Google Photos in the Settings search bar to set up photo backup separately.
Google Photos backs up your camera roll independently from the system backup.
In Google Photos, tap your profile picture, then tap Photos settings > Backup.
Make sure Backup is turned on and set to Back up over Wi-Fi.
How to confirm it worked
- The Backup settings page shows the date and time of your last successful backup.
- Google Photos shows "Backup is on" with the last backup time.
Troubleshooting
- The backup fails or shows an error.
- Make sure you have enough free storage in your Google account (15 GB free). Check storage at one.google.com/storage.
