Only install from the App Store, and spot fakes
One of the biggest reasons iPhones stay safe is that apps come from the App Store, where Apple reviews every one. Sticking to it removes most of the risk, and a couple of checks handle the rest.

Install from the App Store only
Get apps from the App Store app, not from links in texts, emails, or web pages. If a message asks you to install something through a link or a profile, be very cautious, that's a common trick to get harmful software onto a phone.
Spot a fake
Even on the store, occasional copycats slip through. Before installing, check the developer name matches the real company, look at the review count (real apps from big names have thousands), and be wary of an app that copies a famous name but has few reviews or odd spelling.
Watch for "you must install" pop-ups
A web page that says your iPhone is infected and you must install a cleaner is always a scam. Close the page. Apple doesn't warn you about viruses through a website.
