When to use Lockdown Mode
Lockdown Mode is an optional, extra-strong protection built into the iPhone. It's not for everyone, but it's worth knowing about, and genuinely valuable for the small number of people who need it.

What it does
When turned on, Lockdown Mode tightens the phone to make targeted attacks far harder. It limits some message attachments, certain web features, and incoming invitations and calls from people you haven't messaged before. In return, a few things become slightly less convenient.
Who it's for
Most people don't need it. It's designed for those who might be deliberately targeted by well-resourced attackers, for example journalists, activists, or people in sensitive roles. If that's not you, the other guides in this section give you strong everyday protection without the trade-offs.
How to turn it on
If you do want it, go to Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Lockdown Mode, turn it on, and restart. You can switch it off again just as easily if you find it too restrictive. It's there as a strong option, not an everyday default.
