Set up Touch ID and a strong login password
Your login password is the lock on your whole Mac. If it's short or reused from another account, that lock is weak. A strong password with Touch ID gives you both safety and convenience.

Set a strong login password
Go to System Settings, then Touch ID & Password, then Change Password. Choose something long that you don't use anywhere else. A short passphrase of a few unrelated words is both strong and easy to remember.
Add Touch ID
On the same screen, add a fingerprint. Once it's set, you unlock, install apps, and approve changes with a touch, so the strong password stays out of your way day to day. You still need the password after a restart, which is normal and keeps things secure.
Don't share it
Your login password should be yours alone. If someone else uses your Mac, set them up with their own account rather than sharing yours.
